Do you want to be a Ph.D. student? Like many faculty, I receive a number of email messages asking me to review applications. I typically forward these messages to the graduate coordinator, but you must make a formal application to be considered. I'll probably read your message, but generally I can't respond. Don't take a lack of response from me as a discouragement; I may just be putting the matter off until the spring decision-making schedule. I will look at applications that indicate me as a potential advisor.
Do you want to be a postdoctoral research assistant? Please send email. Typically we advertise funded postdoctoral positions, but suitable candidates will sometimes miss the advertisements. There are also opportunities for postoc's and other visitors with their own funding.
